About ScanVegan

We're building the fastest, most honest way to find out if a product is vegan.

Why ScanVegan exists

Reading an ingredient label shouldn't feel like doing homework. Casein, carmine, shellac, L-cysteine — the names that hide animal products are designed to be ignored. ScanVegan reads them for you, every name, every language, and translates the answer into a single word.

What we ship today

  • A free vegan ingredient checker — paste any label, get an instant verdict.
  • A growing ingredient database with sources and plant-based alternatives for every entry.
  • Restaurant and grocery store guides covering the major US chains.
  • An editorial blog with deep-dives on hidden animal ingredients.

What's coming

The mobile app — a camera-first scanner for barcodes, labels, dishes, and menus — is currently in development. Join the waitlist to be first to know when it launches.

How we maintain accuracy

Every ingredient page lists its source (FDA, EFSA, NIH, The Vegan Society, or peer-reviewed research where applicable), a confidence level, and a “last verified” date. When a verdict is ambiguous — like with natural flavors or mono- and diglycerides — we say so plainly instead of guessing. Read more in our methodology.
